Girl of the Year 2027 Theory (Possibly?)

I know, it’s practically illegal for me to be making theories for a doll that hasn’t even been conceived yet and won’t be released for another two years. But something happened yesterday that gave me a possible theory idea.

Basically, in the simplest terms possible without going into current events, there is now a possibility that the US will have a female president next year. This is something that 2 canonical American Girl historical dolls have aspired to become - Samantha Parkington in 1904 and Julie Albright in 1976. And during a period of increased female representation in politics in the 1980s, including the first female nominated to become vice president during the 1984 elections, this was also reflected in Courtney’s story representing 1986. And while American Girl doesn’t make dolls out of real life people like Barbie does, there is a possibility that if Kamala Harris does become president, this might be reflected on a future Girl of the Year storyline, and 2027 would be the earliest events that happen at the end of 2024 could be taken into account while designing a new Girl of the Year.

So how would this play out, considering Girl of the Years are relatively apolitical and don’t comment much on current events (except for brief mentions of Covid in Kira and Corinne’s stories)? There are a few options I could see this happening. American Girl could go the same route as Courtney’s mom running for mayor, except the doll is a little more involved in the election then Courtney was, and there’s another allegory for girl power put in the story kinda like how Courtney created a video game with female representation, but in a more modern way. Another way I could see this going is a doll who tries to run for student council and has that as the main plot of her story, perhaps being the first girl to run for student council president in her school? Those are the main two options I could see a female president reflected onto us in an AG doll. The doll with this theme could also be a doll of color, as Kamala Harris is of Jamaican and Indian descent - and if that happened I’d be pretty happy considering we STILL need a Black Girl of the Year who isn’t a copy and paste of a Truly Me - but that also might not be guarenteed, since Obama was president for eight years and during those eight years, there wasn’t a Black Girl of the Year until his term expired.

Some people might think this is a stretch, especially because usually American Girl likes to play it safe with Girls of the Year and politics is divisive, but there is a reason my mind jumped to this as a possibility. In 2016, when a woman ran for president for the first time and lost the election, Pleasant Rowland (who is known to be quite reclusive) posted an encouraging message to girls everywhere on Facebook, telling them they could be whatever they wanted to be, including a leader. I couldn’t find the post, but I remembered it from all those years ago when I found out that there’s another shot at a woman becoming president, and I immediately realized that this theory is possible.

Ignore this post if she loses, but for now? It’s a 50/50 shot we have a theory for a future Girl of the Year.

I think that's a very good possibility! I enjoyed the World By Us stories, that set a good example for girls, and I would love to see more stories like that.

The world by us books are like, written for 8 year Olds. They are so small and have illustrations everywhere. One of the only reasons I got Evette is because in her book she's very close to my age, if WBU are 13 then shouldn't the books be marketed to 10-14 year olds? Like it should have been like Tenney and Gabriela and Z's books. It would be nicer if they were targeted to an older audience.

no matter how much you don't like a person's policies. it isn't right to lie about them to scare people. Trump did not say he wanted to take anyone's vote away it's called fear mongering it bullies people to agree only out of fear. He was our president for 4 years already and he did not do any of this. He can't even if he wanted to. it creates panic for no reason. Vote for someone's policies that suit your family, no one has to know and no one has to be rude about it. no one needs to have anxiety...again. it's ignorant.

@Creator- Sydney, can we please have a rule about talking about politics on here! Some people get REALLY mean on here. We know the truth about things. I mean if we don't talk about J.K. Rowling because of homophobia then we shouldn't talk about other orange people who are homophobic too!
