It’s been rumored for a while now (and all but confirmed by the appearance of a koala on the GOTY 2021 launch event invite) that the next Girl of the Year, Kira Bailey, will travel to Australia. But due to the current pandemic, a lot of travel is on hold. So I did some research and found that within the current circumstances, Kira couldn‘t go to Australia.
According to Australian and American government websites, Australia has closed their borders to international guests (such as Kira) indefinitely. Normally, this would mean that the Girl of the Year 2021 books couldn’t happen in real life.
However, there is an exception to this rule. If Kira has an immediate family member (like a sibling or a parent) that lives in Australia, she and her family can apply for an exemption. They would have to quarantine for 14 days, but they’d still be able to go to Australia.
What do you think about this?
@•Bella•Rose•Productions• At the beginning of the year, Covid wasn’t affecting North America, therefore no one could have changed Joss’s storyline to accommadate mask wearing and social distancing.
she might already be in Australia. the bushfires started in july 2019, the borders closed in march 2020.
Maybe she is already in Australia, if she is here during the 2019/2020 bushfire season, which unfortunately started about mid 2019, the borders didn't close until march 2020.
otherwise i like your idea that she meets an exemption, and will have to quarantine once arrived... sensible compulsory
Also, maybe aboriginal friends or pieces in the accessories. Would love to see some cultural encounters...
They could do a Great Barrier Reef follow-up story...scuba, warming/acidification of the oceans.
Saw a comment on Reddit from a Mattel worker that said Kira is blonde with green eyes.
Maybe they would use a Jess mold...I’m thinking of a very Bindi Irwin look since the theme seems to be: koala, wildfire, wildlife rescue, Australia. Maybe a khakis shorts/top set?
