Movie Review: Miraculous - Ladybug and Cat Noir - The Movie
I was lucky enough to watch the Miraculous "Ladybug and Cat Noir - The Movie" early before the Netflix release on July 28th! I have been waiting for a movie based on the Miraculous TV show since all the way back in 2016, so I am so excited to be one of the first blogs to review this movie for you all now that it's out!
The movie is a romantic fantasy musical take on the Miraculous Ladybug storyline. Described as a cross between Spider-Man and Frozen, the movie adds a new twist on the familiar story of Marinette, a teenager who is chosen to become the superhero Ladybug and defend Paris from akumatized villains, along with her partner Chat Noir - also the shy boy in class named Adrien. This movie is not canon to the Miraculous Ladybug universe, meaning that it is a standalone movie and does not require viewing of the show to understand the plot, but being a viewer of the show adds a lot more reward to watching the movie. But the movie? It was amazing.
I have no words to describe this movie. As a movie, there are a few flaws regarding pacing and whatnot, but everything else (and as an adaptation of the show) was phenomenal enough for me to disregard those and give it a 10/10. | liked how they adapted Marinette's struggles into a feature length film, and how the story progressed and flowed. I also was pleasantly surprised at how the songs flowed within the storyline and enhanced several parts of the story rather than hindered them. And as a Miraculer, I enjoyed the romantic tension and the payoff of many elements fans have been anticipating.
I believe that if you go into this movie with an open mind and an understanding that this is not canon and is a musical, then you will have an amazing, miraculous time.
SCORE: 10/10
