To be fair, Kira’s book does mention the pandemic, and that is a cute idea. But I feel like that would be something that Barbie would do as like a nurse doll or something, and a mask, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, a laptop and a notebook and pencil would have it be like her life is centered around COVID and she would have no other interests. We need more diverse dolls, dolls with disabilities like an autistic doll and a wider variety of looks. a COVID doll would be very bland, but coming from an eight year old this a cute idea. I just have to say that I have come up with better ideas, but I do give Lexi credit. She thought of this as COVID was getting real, and she was trying to learn more and thought it would be important for AG to teach other people what she learned.

sadly there is Kira Bailey and she is not pandemic themed
Yet we're still here halfway through November and things haven't gotten much better :) So we can only hope, but I doubt it will happen. The last time they rushed a doll we ended up with Gabriela, a copy of a TM (don't get me wrong, I love her, but...)

I think it's a good idea but i do think that the pandemic should have some impact on her life. At least acknowledging that it happened. I mean for a 8-10 year old girl that woud be huge. I hope that this all will be over in a year but i do think that there are some higher priorities (in my opinion) for the girl of the year. for instance at the momment american girl has no asian character dolls being sold. Also american girl has been working on this doll for years and they can't just change it all of a sudden. the news with the pandemic changes every day so it would be hard for ag to know how much of an impact the pandemic will have on the world in a year from now. just some of my thoughts. :)

Oh, I’m not saying it should have NO impact, I’m saying it shouldn’t just be her entire life revolving around the pandemic. (Read my idea for a 2020 historical on BeForever) She also just did the stereotypical ‘she lost everything’ girl. I guess I just think AG shouldn‘t Cancel their plans for one person. Because:
They have bigger priorities (Make more DOCs, Asian-American girls, more disability representation, mental disorders, etc.)
AG isn’t very adventurous with looks. Why can’t I have a GotY look like me with dark brown hair that turns blonde as it goes to the hair’s tip, and green eyes? What about the fact they haven’t used grey eyes since Logan, and the last time a girl got them was Ruthie?

I know. I saw this before, and I was like, um, okay... GOTY 2021 is supposed to be living then. And if they've been working on it for years, they can't say, "Oh! Let's just move this to next year!" They probably start producing the GOTY stuff a year or two before they're GOTY. Maybe it would work for a historical, but... AG probably starts producing the stuff a few years before they sell it, so probably wouldn't work for a contemporary.

Your correct. AG starts writing the books 2 years in advance, and trademarks the name in Augustish the year before. Also, this girl’s idea seems like this doll only is interested in Covid-19, and doesn’t have other interests, like how her accessories would be a mask and Clorox wipes, making it seem like her entire life was based around this, while other people’s historical ideas actually have other personality traits.

This is a very cute article,
and this girl is very creative, but GotY 2021 has been in production since about 2018, so the odds of this happening are low :( and technically, the 2021 GotY is supposed to live in 2021, not 2020. So, although this girl sounds very sweet and the idea is quite good, I don’t think AG will scrap 2021 GotY they’ve been working on for 2 years for this girl’s request:(.
Yeah, I mean it would be a cute idea but I would rather wait 30 years for the historical doll to come out. Every time my kids complain how hard their lifes are, I'll pull that doll out and show them what I had to go through!

Great! I am so o impressed with her idea i want to think
Of one someday. I mean just think, this would be better if her life could be tiny
But more realistic life . Hope this helps!😊😊
