12 Days of American Girl Store Holiday Events 2021: New York City

The holidays are coming up soon, and American Girl stores are having events to mark the occasion! Every day for 12 days, I will be posting all the holiday events at American Girl stores nationwide. Today, we're focusing on the New York store. (Ironic, considering I'm multitasking right now and watching the Miraculous New York special for the 1000th time while blogging. We're doing nothing at school so I figured I'd engage in my special interests during our free history class!)

Note: If you want to participate in any of these events, according to city law you must provide either proof of vaccination for 12 and up and ID for 18 and up.

A representative from Private Picassos will provide an hour-long class using tissue paper to create holiday paper flowers, along with painted and plain pinecones to make your wreath uniquely yours. Afterward, celebrate your wreath-making skills in our café with a meal that will include a beverage, shareable appetizer, and entrée, and top it off with our signature mousse flowerpot. Each girl will receive a special goody bag."

She’ll spend some time with expert doll stylists learning how to style doll hair into a fancy ’do involving double twists topped off with a sparkly tiara, and she’ll get tips on how to paint her doll’s nails. I have noticed that on the website there will be a new Samantha book? It is named ”The gift” and it is supposedly book 1? I am a huge fan of Samantha and this is a little odd.If I can remember right the first book is not called ”the gift” , maybe a new series? I miss the mystery books but it cannot be a mystery book. Are they changing the name?

Abridging the books is *in my opinion* the dumbest idea ever!!!! AAARGH. I hate abridged versions of kids books that were already totally readable. It's not like they were great literature like Dickens. The details are what made the books effective learning tools, and the illustrations in the originals really helped, especially the little vignettes that showed obsolete items that were being discussed. I only buy and gift the original 6 books that have illustrations, except for Maryellen and Nanea who had books that were originally without illustrations. I prefer illustrations. I wish they had the unabridged with illustrations. The mystery series were great - even without illustrations *sigh*.

I imagine that they reformatted the original books for 2 reasons…
