Melody 1963 Love Has To Win REVIEW!

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

This morning, I watched Melody 1963: Love Has To Win, An American Girl Story. Here's my review of the movie:

What I LOVED: I loved that American Girl didn't sugarcoat this movie as well as Melody's books! That's why I like historical movies better than GOTY movies. I also loved Melody and the actress that played her, as well as her mom that always had hope for Melody's world to be better.

What I liked: I liked how the early-60's was portrayed, with scenes such as the store scene and the bus scene. I also liked Trish and her dog Bubbles (stay for the credits and you get to see Bubbles!)

What was OK: It was just fine when (SPOILER ALERT!!!) Melody's class came to see the benefit concert for the Birmingham bombing victims, including the mean boy Donald. That was totally unrealistic. Also, the actress that played Melody's singing voice wasn't good. They could've used the same girl that sang for Melody's Recording Studio!

What I didn't like: Yvonne, Lila, Dywane and Big Momma weren't in the movie, as well as Melody's friends Sharon and Diane, plus they killed off Melody's dad. Val wasn't in it too, but they used her name for a store clerk.

What I strongly disliked: Nothing!

OVERALL GRADE: 9.5 out of 10 stars, A! Amazon did great, can't wait to see Maryellen 1955 The Gift Of Giving next month!

AMERICAN GIRL TRIVIA: Melody wears glasses in her movie, most likely because her actress wears glasses.

COMMENT DISCUSSION QUESTION: What's your favorite Historical Movie?

MY ANSWER: Melody!
