I had nothing to post today, but I decided to give myself something to post. I looked through the American Girl Cafe's brunch and dinner menus and figured out the 10 Weirdest Things On The AG Cafe Menu!
10. Firecracker Shrimp Pasta
"Angel-hair pasta, lightly spicy shrimp, spinach, and grape tomatoes in light white wine cream sauce." Um, American Girl? Pasta, shrimp and spinach all together sounds questionable to me. It might be good, but for now it's on #10 on this list.
9. Savory Breakfast Skillet
"Scrambled eggs, chicken, grilled potatoes, onions, peppers, and cheddar cheese; served with a side of avocado, salsa, and sour cream." It sounds normal until "salsa". Who'd have salsa for breakfast? Count me out.
8. House-Made Macaroni And Cheese
This seems normal, until "with crispy potato-chip crust." Back when I had gluten, I remember having my macaroni and cheese without potato chips crust, and the thought makes me cringe. I don't know why.
7. Classic Eggs Benedict
This is only on the list because of two tiny details. "Canadian bacon and poached eggs served on an English muffin." CANADIAN BACON? ENGLISH MUFFIN? This is American Girl, kids.
6. Roasted Cauliflower and Broccoli Salad
"With Belgian endive, radicchio, peppadew peppers, and dates with Parmesan garlic dressing." What kid would say, "I'll have the roasted cauliflower and broccoli salad, please!"? This sounds like it belongs on the Food Network, not the menu of the American Girl Cafe.
5. Perfect Pancakes
"Delightful heart-shaped pancakes with powdered sugar." My problem with this is that the pancakes are heart-shaped. American Girl portions are so tiny, so a regular pancake would be small- let alone a heart-shaped one.
4. Soda For 9 and Under?????
A quote from the Truly Me Menu for kids nine and under: "Includes choice of milk, juice (apple or orange), soda, or our signature pink lemonade." It might just be that I was raised in a healthy household, but soda for nine and under is kind of unhealthy. And it wouldn't help with the gimmies of dolls at the store, either.
3. Crab Cake Sandwich
"Jumbo lump crab cake with lightly spicy mayonnaise and crisp cabbage slaw on a soft potato bun. Served with french fries, sweet potato fries, or house-made chips." Again, it may just be because of my family's shellfish allergies, but I can't imagine a little kid saying that they want the Crab Cake Sandwich.
2. Sweet Shop Cupcakes
"Let your creativity shine as you decorate scrumptious cupcakes for yourself and a cupcake for your doll. You'll get your own pastry bag of frosting, plus sprinkles to make your sweet creations." Thinking of all the frosting doll faces that this has caused makes me made.
And the weirdest thing on the American Girl Cafe menu is...
1. Alcohol
Yes, alcohol. American Girl serves beer, red and white wine, champagne and sparkling alcohol of all kinds. And I can only imagine the disaster called drunk people in a children's restaurant inside a doll store. So I hope you reconsider this soon, Mattel.
