According to the Bleeding Cool comics site, the IDW comics company, that made Julie and the Blue Guitar, lost its license to make American Girl graphic novels, meaning that the Josefina graphic novel and the Isabel and Nicki mystery have been cancelled.

I actually find this strange. Why would the novels suddenly be cancelled? The Josefina novel was even listed on Amazon, so it seems like AG did not predict this would happen. Fingers crossed 🤞 AG is just switching to a new publication company, and we'll still get the graphic novels. I was really looking forward to them!

Let’s hope so. IDW lost their license to Star Trek but they retained that license apparently and a new Star Trek graphic novel is coming next year. Maybe IDW could do the same with American Girl.

Did American Girl themselves confirm this? Is American Girl going to find someone else or do they want an excuse to give up and not even try, no matter what? Why do you think they lost their license?

This was only from Cold Bleedings. We don’t know if American Girl is going to find someone else to publish these comics. I have no idea why IDW lost that license along with My Little Pony. I’m guessing there must be something going on in IDW.

WHAT?! I just finished Julie's Blue Guitar last week, and was excited because it resparked my love for reading. I was just wondering last night when the next graphic novel would come out.

I'll try to be optimistic. Maybe the company is selling out or folding? Maybe AG decided to partner with a different publishing company? I'm hoping this doesn't mean the end for AG comics.

Perhaps the comic books could return if American Girl finds another publishing company. Then we would be able to read the stories. Or maybe IDW can “re-up” the American Giel license and start publishing them again, just like how they did with Star Trek.

They should do that! It would be wonderful if we could get a mystery book rather than a mystery comic for all the historicals that came after Nanea. They were doing a retelling of Meet Josefina. Maybe they can do this through maybe a journal or diary and let us see the update to Josefina's series.
