American Girl San Francisco Closing February 13

American Girl has also confirmed that their store in San Francisco is closing in addition to Houston, Texas on February 13. The store opened in 2013, so it could either be lease issues or property issues as the Stanford Mall is also changing.

I also noticed that both of these stores were the last stores to close where there's 2 stores in 1 state. I heard a rumor on a board that this closure was not caused by lease issues, so maybe AG just wants one store per state? Either way this is very sad.

Now when I asked one of store managers at the Columbus store about that, she seemed confident that it was a numbers game and their profits in the Columbus store were well above where they needed to be. So i guess time will tell.

I should also mention that the AG person told my friend(another fellow collector) that the stores were never meant to permanent. They opened them as a marketing strategy to get more people interested in the brand, which makes sense but my…
