I never really thought about Doll of the Month: All About Z in this way before, but reading how it frames Z Yang as a Seattle‑based, Korean‑American filmmaker‑kid—living in Washington, making stop‑motion doll‑videos, shooting photos, and caring for her dog Popcorn, all while realizing she can chase new experiences without losing her authentic self—made me appreciate how much the “Doll of the Month” blurb is really about condensing a whole story‑arc into a tiny identity‑snapshot: the “having to make a documentary for a film contest” hook is the inciting‑moment that turns Z from a passive hobbyist into a creator‑on‑a‑mission, and the “you can enjoy new experiences while also staying true to who you are” takeaway reads like the series’ core…
Here is something else that is interesting. I was clicking on the new cover and I saw an image of a silhouette of an adult Samantha just like the silhouettes that American Girl used to have for their historical characters. Samantha is shown wearing her heart-shaped locket in her bun.
I know this is unnrelated. I went to the Simon and Schuster website to look at Samantha: The Next Chapter. The book cover has been updated! The cover is still the same with Samantha wearing a burgundy dress and her heart-shaped locket in her hair. Except there are now borders with the year 1920 on the bottom. Just like the old Pleasant Company book covers. I feel like the book cover is much better now.
