Back in 2017, therw were theories about Tenney possibly being the Girl of the Year for 2017 instead of Gabriela. There was a leaked photo of making a Tenney film. Plus, Tenney’s collection was more elaborate and detailed than Gabriela’s. Gabriela’s collection basically had cheaper-looking items compared to Tenney’s.
I remember this was the first a Girl of the Year doesn’t get the number one emphasis. Before that, I remember they would always promote the Girl of the Year a lot more than a historical character. I believe American Girl wanted to have a first African American Girl of the Year but they could have given her collection much better attention.
