Maryellen Larkin is the May 2024 Doll of the Month!
Maryellen Larkin is from Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1954. She is the middle child in a family of seven kids and loves television, astronauts and letting her imagination soar. At first, she tries her best to stand out from the crowd, including her siblings, by doing things such as painting her front door red and dressing up in a brand-new poodle skirt outfit for the first day of fourth grade. But, throughout her adventures, she learns that she doesn't have to try to stand out - being herself is enough. Maryellen was released in 2015, the first historical doll to come out during the BeForever era, and has been available since.
Please do a review of her Cowgirl Costume.
When I was a girl in the ‘90’s, I dreamed and wished and prayed that a 1950’s historical doll would be created. I even remember loving the poodle skirt Halloween costume that came out for modern dolls back during that decade. I also have to confess that I was actually disappointed when Julie came out, representing the 1970’s. I just thought the ‘50’s would have been a better decade to pick to be the most recent time period since Molly during WW2, even as a college student. I later read Julie’s books, fell in love with her, and realized what made her special, but I was over the moon in 2021 when I discovered that American Girl had created Maryellen…
Her ten year anniversary is coming up, ahh so exciting!! 💖 Great pick for DOTM!
