I feel like you do have a point. From the time of Lindsey all the way to, in my opinion, Lea Clark, American Girl's marketing for their Girl of the Year line was significant. In a specific year, the Girl of the Year was given more attention.
In American Girl magazines, they were featured on the first page. I remember from one magazine there was an advertisement for Lanie. Isabelle Palmer even had her own McDonald's Happy Meal.
