A big part of the Girl of the Year 2025, Summer McKinny's storyline is that she attends a children's business fair to showcase her dog treat baking and dog walking business, Waggy Pup Tails. But this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Maryland local Janear Garrus.

Garrus, also an educator and founder of private schools, started hosting local children's business fairs in 2017, for children to sell products that they developed on their own. According to Jodi Goldberg, the senior director of content development at American Girl, the fairs inspired the business fair Summer attends!
According to technical.ly, "Through research and feedback, American Girl leadership noticed an increased interest in entrepreneurship among kids. Goldberg specifically noted that 47% of girls aged 7 to 12 said they could see themselves becoming entrepreneurs. Many girls also showed interest in baking. That’s what led to Summer’s character. "
“Making Summer a business owner gave us a great way to present these two perennial interests — baking and pets — in a fun, new way,” Goldberg wrote in a statement to Technical.ly. “Through entrepreneurship, Summer’s story gives readers lessons in decision making, problem solving, time management, and money matters in an engaging, appealing way.”
What did the children who inspired Summer think of the 2025 Girl of the Year, you may ask? Garrus said this: "For students that entrepreneurship is their thing, they found the book very validating. They were really excited about someone that represented their interest.”

The ABCD Index stands for Academic Business Current Data Index. It is a free-to-access online platform for scholars, researchers, publishers, colleges, and universities. Its aim: to provide a comprehensive, searchable database of international journals, publishers, and research papers.
The platform claims to verify journals using a set of criteria — such as valid E-ISSN/P-ISSN, publisher name, start year, research area, indexing status, etc.
Here’s a clear explanation of ABCD Index — what it is, and how you can find journals on it. Since you’ve earlier shown interest in submitting papers, this should help you use it correctly.
ABCD Index is an online indexing / journal-directory platform for academic journals across many disciplines — science, engineering, humanities, social science, medicine, and more.
The platform’s goal is to help researchers, authors, publishers, and institutions locate “real” journals, by collecting and verifying details such as ISSN, publisher info, publication frequency, access type (open/paid), indexing status, etc.
ABCD Index assigns a rating (categories A, B, C, D) to journals — based on evaluation parameters like age of journal, regularity of issues, whether peer review is done, whether journal maintains proper formatting and editorial standards,…

Use the search bar (usually in the middle of the page) and type either
the journal name, or
the ISSN/P-ISSN (if you have it).
Press “Search.” A list of journals matching your query will appear.
Use the filters on the side (or top) of the results page to narrow down by:
Indexing → select “ABCD-Index” to show only journals approved by ABCD.
(Optional) Rating → ABCD uses a category system: A, B, C, D. Select the rating you want (e.g. “A”) and filter accordingly.
(Optional) Other criteria such as country, free/paid…
