New American Girl Making Herstory Post: Climate Activists

American Girl just posted a new Making Herstory post, all about climate activists just in time for Earth Day on April 22.

The activists are:

-Iris Zhan (left), a 17-year-old who co-founded the digital chapter of Fridays for Future and founded her local chapter of the Sunrise Movement, two organizations hoping to stop climate change. Iris uses she/they pronouns and also likes to make music to express herself.

-Genesis Butler (top), a 14-year-old who was also featured in the book Kira's Animal Rescue. Genesis is an animal activist who learned about animal agriculture and its link to climate change and founded Youth Climate Save, an organization dedicated to stopping this. She also founded Genesis for Animals, an organization that helps fund animal sanctuaries.

-Haven Coleman (right), a 15-year-old (the website says she's 14, but she just turned 15) who co-founded the US Youth Climate Strike, which brought the School Strike for Climate movement to the United States. She also founded the Arid Agency, which is a Gen Z creative agency accelerating climate and social justice campaigns for nonprofits and brands. She is part of the LGBT community and uses she/her pronouns.

What do you think of these cool activists? I think it's cool that they all founded or co-founded these awesome organizations making a difference, despite being only teenagers. I also think it's cool that American Girl decided to highlight such diverse activists. I didn't know the climate movement was so diverse!
