New Potential American Girl Movie?

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

A few days ago, the New Yorker posted an article about Mattel, American Girl's parent company's film division amid the release of the Barbie movie.

A potential script for an American Girl movie that an anonymous screenwriter was working on was mentioned in the article.

It was described as being a cross between Booksmart, a coming-of-age school comedy featuring teenage girls and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, a movie about two boys failing their history classes who have to time travel to various points in history and meet historical figures along the way.

I'm not going to get my hopes up considering that this movie has taken a while to make and get off the ground (news of an American Girl movie from Mattel Films first surfaced in 2018, five years ago), but I would love to potentially be involved in it once they actually make it!

I kind of want a movie like they used to make. I always wanted a movie focused on Kaya. There is not nearly enough Native American/Indigenous representation. The movies back then just felt so authentic and I loved admiring the sets and costumes of period pieces. I feel like modern girls going back in time to meet all these girls wouldn't give that same vibe. But it might still be funny and entertaining. Who knows?
