Hi, everybody! I am a collector of AG accessories, but not the dolls, How I got into AG was, I have a large stuffed animal collection, and I wanted some kind of setup to pose them with. Maryellen's diner and Samantha's ice cream parlor are great setups! Then I got into the books.
So I'm wondering, why did Caroline have such a short run? A friend IRL said she was too similar to Felicity. Maybe in style of clothing, but look at all the cool stuff Caroline does! She's another wartime character, but she's not on the home front like Felicity, Addie and Molly; she's in the thick of it. She and her family were in serious danger, and she was incredibly brave, and not just in her "hero" book.
And what I especially love about Caroline is how she shows growth in the way BeForever characters are created. The series started out with Samantha grudgingly doing embroidery when she would rather have been outside with her frenemy, being unladylike. Twenty-five years and ten new characters later, Caroline finds a way to use her embroidery to help her father escape prison. Now that's lateral thinking! And it's an indication of truly free choice: a young woman should be as free to choose to do embroidery as she is free to choose not to.
Does anyone here have any inside info, or educated guesses, as to why Caroline disappeared? And for that matter, Cecile and Marie-Grace. I don't have as much admiration for them as Caroline, but I do think it's odd that they've disappeared so thoroughly. Like, my friend's 11 y/o has never heard of them.
I was told this was because of the lack of interest in Caroline's, as well as Marie-Grace and Cecile's, time period. Some people have forgotten about the War of 1812. Marie-Grace and Cecile's stories deal with a topic that is not considered "signifcant" to American history, but it is still interesting if you read the Looking Back sections of their books. I really love Caroline, Marie-Grace, and Cecile. Hopefully someday they come back.

I think they must have not sold well.
Yes, the doll is one of the prettiest. And her stuff is cool too. I hadn't thought much about the fashions, furnishings and so on of that era, but I like what I've seen. More refined than the Colonial era, but without the fussiness of the late 19th century.
And right after I posted this, I cruised eBay and some other sites, looking for Caroline's basket. Whoa, way out of my price range. Even if I bought it piecemeal, it would still add up. Which is what happens when a character is retired!
Is there really a chance of her being brought back?
I have no idea but I wish she wasn't retired. She's my dream doll.
Caroline is wonderful and so are her stories. I think that with her 2012 premiere, she was a hit! But then AG struggled of what to do with her when BeForever came along. Should they put her in the archives and have a big premiere? Should they leave her be? Should they give her a new outfit? I think they let go of her to try to lose the focous so everyone will pay attention to the new things they were doing. Overall, Caroline is a five-star doll that should come out of the archives and actually make AG more successful.
No one knows. I’m a AG historian of some sorts, but to this day, no one has an official reason of why it happened. It may of happened because she wasn’t selling well, the BeForever rebranding, or just because they had another doll to ‘take her spot’ (Since the year she retired was the year MaryEllen was released; and the next year Melody came out too)
