Doll of the Month August 2023: Marie-Grace!

Marie-Grace Gardner won the poll for the Doll of the Month for August 2023!

(Edit made by AGDN reader Raine)

In 1853, Marie-Grace lives in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Yellow Fever outbreak. Marie-Grace is new to town, and she is struggling to make friends at first, but then she meets Cecile Rey, who shares the same love of music that she does. However, the bonds of the two friends are tested when Yellow Fever breaks out in New Orleans and they must use their strengths to help out in different ways during the time of need.

Marie-Grace was released in August 2011 and retired in August 2014, along with all the other Best Friend dolls.

Marie-Grace is so beautiful! She's one of the first dolls I bought once I got back into collecting as an adult. I'm so happy her face mold is being used on other dolls now!

There’s a fan theory that Marie-Grace is Mary Gardner Edwards, Samantha’s Grandmary. Supposedly the timeline works.

Flapper Sam and young Claudie probably would get along great, if they ever met!

Marie-Grace was my first doll. :) I got her for Christmas 2013, so almost 10 years ago. I was wayyy under AG's target age range, but I always took good care of Marie-Grace, so she's still in really good condition. My mom says that I used to take Marie-Grace everywhere. Some criticism I've heard of Marie-Grace is that her meet outfit looks too much like a princess dress, but that's actually why I wanted her as a little kid! I was deep into my Disney princess phase, and I thought that Marie-Grace was a princess, especially in her fancy outfit. She'll always be my most special doll. ❤

I really love her dress, and her green holiday dress that she wore at her Uncle Luc and Aunt Oceane's wedding.

Marie-Grace was one of my first American Girl dolls. I got her for my 14th birthday back in 2012 almost 11 years ago. She was the first doll I picked out at the American Girl place and it was also the first birthday I celebrated there. I brought my nine other American Girl dolls who I had at the time. I thought of getting a Just Like You doll that day but decided on either Cecile or Marie-Grace. After my mom pointed out I could play with Marie-Grace's hair more easily, I chose her. It took me several minutes to decide. I got Cecile for Christmas the year after, new in box. I also got her and Cecile's books from…
