In 1932, Ruthie lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her parents during the Great Depression. Ruthie is best friends with Kit Kittredge, and while most families, like Kit's, experience financial hardship during the Depression, Ruthie, who's father is a banker, is still well-off. However, Ruthie doesn't take it for granted, and instead tries to help Kit in any way she can, whether that's traveling to see Kit's Aunt Millie to get money to pay the bills or just being there for her best friend.
Ruthie was released in June 2008 and retired in August 2014, along with all the other Best Friend dolls.

I got Ruthie back in Christmas 2014 with Ivy the year they retired when I was sixteen. I asked my mom and grandmother for them for Christmas when I knew they were retiring since they were the only Best Friend dolls still available who I didn't have at the time and it happened! :) I even got them new in box! The year after that, I got Nellie from my mom and have all the Historical Best Friends characters. I hope the Best Friends come back someday! :)
