As someone else had previously pointed out, maybe one reason why the Kavi doll sold out first is probably because of the Wicked movie with Ariana Grande. That film has been quite popular and there are lots of promotional materials. Love the green and pink combination.

Also, Kavi's doll is the only big ticket item available from Mattel after they had to recall the other dolls for putting a "suggestive" website on the box. So this makes Kavi even more of a sought after item because she is one of the few available.
