  • A New Doll Is Coming!

This morning, I got some good news. My sister’s roommate is cleaning up some of her old stuff right now, and she found her old American Girl doll - a Just Like You 21. She asked me if I wanted her, and I said of course! Now, I already have Just Like You 21. I’ve had her since 2015, when I bought one and named her Shelly. I was trying to come up with an idea for how to customize this one - how to make it extra special. But then, an idea hit me. I think I’ve mentioned on this blog before how I’ve recently gotten into Transformers. After the new animated movie came out last year, I became OBSESSED, watched all the other movies, got some of the toys, stuff like that. However, American Girl and Transformers will never officially cross paths. Not only are they mainly targeted towards different genders, but Transformers is owned by Hasbro, Mattel’s rival. But one of the movies, Bumblebee, is about a 18 year old girl named Charlie who befriends the Transformers character B-127, also known as Bumblebee… so I decided to plan on doing the thing that Mattel would go out of business before they did - a custom American Girl doll based on a Hasbro movie. To make Charlie (who was played by Hailee Steinfeld), I’m going to use a short, curly wig with bangs, and dress her in clothes reminiscent of the ones she wore in the movie. Since the Bumblebee movie takes place in the 1980s, this also gives me an opportunity to use some items in Courtney’s collection for her too, and who knows! Maybe Charlie and Courtney can be friends! I’ll let you know and post pictures once she’s done!

  • Fate of American Girl Create Your Own Dolls Left Unknown

When several social media users contacted American Girl about the availability of the Create Your Own doll, American Girl responded with a generic answer about them not being available and there being no updates at this time. So basically, they could come back, they could not come back. However, there's a reason for the abrupt stoppage of Create Your Own services, even if AG won't point-blank say it. There have been extensive tariffs put on goods manufactured in China and other foreign countries in the past month, which has led to force companies to rethink how much they need to charge for things. When Create Your Own first launched in 2017, a Create Your Own doll cost $200, which was a lot of money, but once inflation started hitting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the price went up to $225, which is out of reach for a lot of people. Now that tariff-related price increases are starting to occur, it could cost over $200 to make one Create Your Own custom doll, which could potentially lead them to cost well over $400 to be profitable.

  • Fun American Girl Movie Fact

On a recent podcast, actress Sammi Hanratty, who played Chrissa in her movie, revealed that she auditioned for Kit in Kit's movie! While the part obviously didn't go to her - it went to Abigail Breslin instead - it's interesting to know Sammi could have played Kit! Last year, it was also revealed that Miya Cech, who played Corinne, auditioned for Ivy in her movie and didn't get the part, before eventually winning the part of Corinne. So if you all ever audition for an American Girl movie and don't get it - don't worry, they might have you play another doll!

  • Doll of the Month April 2025: Joss!

Joss Kendrick is the Doll of the Month for April 2025! When the surf’s up, Joss pops out her hearing aid, hops on her board, and paddles into the waves. Joss is stoked to enter a surfing video contest with her surf sister Sofia and Murph, the surfing bulldog. If she can master a killer aerial like the frontside air and get her brother Dylan to catch it on video, maybe she’d even have a shot at winning. But Dylan throws her a curve: he dares her to try out for the cheer team. No way—Joss can’t see herself as a cheerleader. (What’s with those ginormous hairbows, anyway?) She’s 100% surfer girl, and Dylan knows it! Still, if she takes him up on his dare, then maybe he’ll help her with her video—it’s worth a try, right?
