- American Girl Julie and the Blue Guitar Review
I just read the new American Girl book Julie and the Blue Guitar! Here's my review of the graphic novel: The novel was pretty good! It started out pretty slow, not going to lie, partially due to the novel's framing device of switching between time periods being not that great, but everything else was pretty good once I was able to get past that. Emma, the modern character from 2024, was pretty relatable, being a modern incarnation of Julie with a knack for mysteries and documentary filmmaking who just moved to San Francisco, and her passion for finding out where Julie is today was a nice parallel to the main story revolving around Julie, which gave me a lot of nostalgia to the old mystery series that American Girl put out for the historical characters before putting less of a focus on the book. It felt just like an older American Girl mystery - just in a new format. The art style was enjoyable and pretty to look at, and THE ENDING! (Spoiler alert - in 2024, Julie is apart of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors!) AAAA IT WAS SO COOL TO SEE JULIE TODAY! So yeah, I really enjoyed this and would recommend purchasing it to show American Girl that we want more books for the historicals!
