  • American Girl x Disney Frozen Dolls Coming Later This Year

While American Girl has released several Disney Princess dolls, including some that released today, dolls inspired by the Frozen movies in particular have been floated around in the AG fandom as theories - after all, both Frozen movies are Disney's most popular movies of all time, with Frozen 2 being the highest-grossing animated movie of all time by any studio. With more Frozen movies on the way, it's only fitting that Anna and Elsa join the American Girl lineup - and in the press release for today's Princess launch, AG and Disney announced that Frozen dolls are coming later this year!

Building on the success of last year’s Disney | American Girl Disney Princess Collector Doll series, the first wave of a new core collection revealed today, features beloved characters Disney’s Ariel, Tiana, and Cinderella. • Disney Princess American Girl Doll: Tiana

This is the final part of my three-part blog series talking about the new Disney Princess American Girl dolls in-depth, focusing on the Tiana doll. Tiana is from the 2009 Disney movie The Princess and the Frog, which is loosely based on the 2002 novel The Frog Princess and the German folk tale The Frog Prince. In the movie, Tiana is a hardworking waitress with dreams to open a restaurant of her own, who's life takes a turn after she kisses a frog prince and becomes a frog herself, racing to become human again - and falling in love along the way. The Princess and the Frog story has spawned the creation of several theme park attractions, including the retheming of the beloved Splash Mountain ride at Disney World, and a series that will premiere on Disney Plus soon. American Girl describes Tiana as "focused and driven" and as someone who is "determined to make her dream of opening her own restaurant come true through a mix of magic and hard work.". The Tiana doll has the Claudie mold, dark skin, brown eyes that open and close, and curly black hair styled in a high bun with face-framing tendrils and a glittery green headband with yellow organza and satin petals. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. She arrives in a green-and-yellow dress featuring a yellow organza illusion neckline, satin petal-shaped bodice, layered green satin overskirt, yellow organza skirt with petal hem, and yellow satin underskirt. A yellow flower at the waist with a rhinestone center and embroidered vine details complete the look. She also arrives in a golden-metal chain necklace with green gemstones, a pair of yellow elbow-length gloves, a pair of green open-toe kitten heels with golden binding, and underwear. In addition to her regular outfit, 2 other outfits are available - her Work Dress and Evening Star Dress.

  • Disney Princess American Girl Doll: Ariel

This is the second part of my three-part blog series talking about the new Disney Princess American Girl dolls in-depth, focusing on the Ariel doll. Ariel is from the 1989 Disney movie The Little Mermaid, which is based on the Danish fairy tale of the same name. In the movie, Ariel is a mermaid who is fascinated with life on land. She makes a deal with a sea witch to gain legs and witness life on land - but at the cost of her voice. While exploring the land, she must fight to break the curse, or else she will be silenced forever. The Little Mermaid story has spawned numerous direct-to-video spinoffs and sequels, two TV shows, and a live action movie that released in 2023. American Girl describes Ariel as "inquisitive and determined" and as someone who "bravely dives into new adventures on her journey to find her place in the world". The Ariel doll has the Nanea mold, light skin, aqua-colored eyes that open and close, and signature red wavy hair styled with sideswept bangs and a pink sea-flower hair clip with a yellow rhinestone center. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. She arrives in a mermaid-style dress with a glittery purple satin bodice and an aqua skirt with an iridescent scale print and a glittery green “fin.” The dress features an iridescent organza bodice overlay, ruffled glitter-mesh sleeves, a ruffled peplum waist with purple ribbon trim, and a glitter-mesh and organza ruffled hem. She also arrives in a golden-metal chain necklace with a seashell pendant, purple open-toe kitten heels with glittery faux seashells at the front and underwear. In addition to her regular outfit, 2 other outfits are available - her Day Dress and Castle Ball Gown. Stay tuned for a post about Tiana!

  • Disney Princess American Girl Doll: Cinderella

This is the first part of my three-part blog series talking about the new Disney Princess American Girl dolls in-depth, focusing on the Cinderella doll. Cinderella is from the 1950 Disney movie Cinderella, which is based on the ancient fairy tale of the same name. In the movie, Cinderella is a young orphan living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters, who is forced to do their chores. When she finds out about a royal ball her stepmother is attending, she is driven to go, only to have her fortunes reversed by her stepmother - and reversed again by a fairy godmother. The Cinderella story has spawned numerous direct-to-video spinoffs and a live action movie that released in 2015. American Girl describes Cinderella as "kind and courageous" and as someone who "extends her warm nature to everyone she meets". The Cinderella doll has the Josefina mold, light skin, blue eyes that open and close, and blonde hair styled in a high bun with a blue headband and curled, sideswept bangs, and blue rhinestone earrings in her pierced ears. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. She arrives in a blue satin ball gown featuring a sweetheart illusion neckline, a bodice with braided trim and a silver foil print, white organza puff sleeves, and a white peplum overskirt with silver glitter detail, as well as a pair of glittery “glass slippers” with kitten heels and rhinestones at the toes, a black satin ribbon choker necklace, a pair of white elbow-length gloves and underwear. In addition to her regular outfit, 2 other outfits are available - her Day Dress and Original Ball Gown. Stay tuned for posts about Ariel and Tiana!

  • American Girl x Disney Princess Wave 2 Details

The next wave of American Girl and Disney Princess dolls are being revealed on Good Morning America tomorrow (full disclosure, Good Morning America is owned by Disney), so here's everything I know about the release tomorrow! The dolls will be available both online and in store tomorrow after the GMA reveal. I have heard rumors that these dolls will only be slightly more expensive than a normal American Girl doll - apparently, they won't be $300, to the relief of everyone's wallets! I have mentioned this before, but the majority of the rumors I'm hearing in terms of dolls is Cinderella (from the 1950 animated film Cinderella), Ariel (from the 1989 animated film The Little Mermaid) and Tiana (from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog). I have also heard some people say Aurora (from the 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty) in place of Cinderella, but Ariel (from the original movie, not Halle Bailey's Ariel from the live-action remake) and Tiana are the two consistent names I have heard from all sources. Ariel and Tiana both make sense, as both of their films are celebrating anniversaries this year (35th anniversary of The Little Mermaid, 15th anniversary of The Princess And The Frog), plus it's Black History Month and Tiana was the first African American Disney Princess, but both Cinderella and Aurora could fit too, as they are both symbols of the Disney theme parks, and it's the 55th anniversary of Sleeping Beauty and the 10th anniversary of the live-action Maleficent movie this year. However, I've heard Cinderella more, so we'll have to see who they pick tomorrow!

  • American Girl Free Downloadable Books for Black History Month

During the Black Lives Matter movement during the summer of 2020, American Girl made the stories of all of their existing Black characters up to that point free to access online. I assumed that after that, American Girl deleted the page like they deleted the other books they made free during the coronavirus pandemic, but in American Girl's promotional email today for Black History Month, they revealed that Cecile and Marie-Grace, Addy, Melody and Gabriela's books are all still free PDFs on American Girl's site, as well as excerpts from Makena, Evette and Maritza's books! Claudie is not included, however. Here is the link: https://www.americangirl.com/pages/equality
