We're almost halfway through 2022! At the very end of the year, the new Girl of the Year will be unveiled. It is currently rumored to be a doll named Kavi Sharma.
We know a bit more about Kavi than we usually do for Girls of the Year due to clues that her name have given. Kavi Sharma is a Hindu name, so this means that she will be South Asian, most likely Indian. If this is true, Kavi will be the first main Girl of the Year of South Asian descent and the second South Asian doll overall.
It is also rumored that Kavi will be a poet, as "Kavi" means "poet" in Hindi.
Now that we're almost halfway to Kavi, I figured I'd do the same thing I did to predict Kira a few years ago (I unfortunately didn't do Corinne) to learn more about our rumored next Girl of the Year!
To start, I thought of year patterns that 2023 falls into (like odd numbered years) and made a list of all the Girl of the Years that each year correlates with. Once I had my lists, my brain cells started working hard and then, conclusions were made!
The first list of Girl of the Years I made was the ones from odd numbered years. To narrow it down, I made the list Kavi and the last four Girl of the Years from odd numbered years- Kira, Blaire, Gabriela and Grace.
When I was predicting Kira, I observed that most of these dolls are creative-type Girl of the Years, who all excel in the arts. However, Kira broke that mold with her focus on animals, wildlife rescue and climate change. I still think that Kavi will join the other odd-numbered dolls in excelling in arts due to the trademark.
The second list is dolls from every three years. Again, I narrowed it down to the last four- Joss, Gabriela, Isabelle and Kanani.
These seem like a random assortment of dolls at a glance, but these dolls all had similar color palettes in their collections. Joss had a lot of light blue and pink in her collection, Gabriela's had a lot of varying shades of blue and purple, Isabelle's collection was pink and purple and Kanani's was pink, purple and blue.
My guess is that Kavi will have a lot of darker shades of blue and pink with some purple in her collection. Corinne's collection is white, blue and purple, but American Girl will use different shades than the light tones featured in Corinne's collection.
In addition, these colors are the 2023 colors of the year. Usually, these correlate with GOTY collections, so prepare to see these colors in Kavika's collection!
The third list is dolls from every four years. The dolls in this pattern are Blaire, Grace, Kanani and Nicki.
Excluding Grace, most of these dolls have curly or wavy hair. My guess is that Kavi will have hair the length of Nicki's, but with the curl of Blaire's and Kanani's.
The last list is dolls from every five years- Luciana, Saige and Mia are included in this pattern. These dolls don't really have anything in common that I think would work for Kavi, except for the fact that both Luciana and Mia both have a side part in their wig. Maybe Kavi would, too?
Before I go onto the CYO generator and try to come up with my guess on what Kira will look like, there's one more thing I thought of. Lately, Girls of the Year have been sort of similar to dolls from about ten years ago. Here are some examples:
Joss and Chrissa have an eleven year gap. Joss likes surfing, and Chrissa likes swimming.
Kira and Lanie have a eleven year gap. Kira and Lanie are both blonde environmentalists.
Corinne and Nicki have a fifteen year gap. They both live in Colorado and ski.
Gabriela and Marisol have a twelve year gap. They are both interested in dancing.
Lea and Jess have a ten year gap. They both explore a tropical South American country.
Ten years from Kavi would be Saige, eleven years would be McKenna and twelve years would be Kanani. My wild guess of putting all of their stories into a blender would be that Kavi is very smart and likes helping out people with their poetry, but then something happens that affects her ability to write- maybe writer's block, maybe a broken leg, maybe a big event. Kavi would have to persevere and find a way to get her inspiration back.
Now, here's my guess on what Kavi will look like:
I gave her the Sonali mold, black wavy medium hair, dark skin and brown eyes.
