In Throop, Pennsylvania, some girls with big hearts made their classmate very happy. Rosemarie Vasquez, a sixth-grade girl who is fighting brain cancer currently, received an American Girl doll (Truly Me #66, to be exact) in the Berry Wheelchair from her classmates at Mid Valley Elementary. The kids in her sixth-grade class had a lemonade stand, a hot chocolate stand and asked for donations from their families, raising $300, exceeding the cost of a Truly Me doll and the Berry Wheelchair. The kids are really sweet! I'm so glad that WNEP in Pennsylvania reported about this to let me know. Rosemarie must be VERY happy. On the Scholastic Parents site, I learned that the third Girl of the Year 2017 book for Gabriela McBride will not be written by Teresa E. Harris like her other two books that we know. Instead, it is going to be written by Varian Johnson, who is also a newcomer to the AG world. He is African-American and has written several young adult books with African-American people on the cover, so this adds to the rumor that Gabriela will be a remodel of the retired Truly Me #46. AMERICAN GIRL TRIVIA: Addy wasn't one of the Original 3 because American Girl felt that there wasn't a market for African-American families that bought from mail-order only catalogs. COMMENT DISCUSSION QUESTION: If you could retire one doll from any collection, who would you retire? MY ANSWER: I'd retire #22 because #22 and #27 are so similar and I'm eyeing #27 right now.

American Girl's big huge annual holiday catalog will start arriving to homes the week of November 14. I am so excited! Today, I found a really cool leak! It involves books for the Contemporary Line and books continuing American Girl and DK's partnership. On Amazon, two new books for the Contemporary Line came up for pre-order. First, the third book for Tenney is up for pre-order! It will be written by Kellen Hertz (Lea And Camila's co-author), like the other two books in Tenney's series. The release date is April 25, 2017. Spring release date, anyone? April 25, 2017 is the date where several Wellie Wishers books are listed for release, too. Now, the more exciting news: the first book for ANOTHER Contemporary Character is available for pre-order! Who can this be? Z? Barbara? Della? Nanea? Logan? These are all of the trademarked names that are leaked right now. The book will also release on April 25, 2017. There is no description as of yet, but her books are written by Jen Calonita. She has never written an American Girl book before, but she has written many chapter books for girls, like the Fairy Tale Reform School and V.I.P series. DK is releasing an American Girl Character Encyclopedia on July 4, 2017. It is written by Carrie Anton (Truly Me series) and Erin Falligant (The Lilac Tunnel: My Journey With Samantha). Lastly, not affiliated with AG, but the series Brands We Know is releasing an American Girl-themed book on January 1, 2017. The holiday displays were up, the pink tree was up, they were playing Christmas music instead of their usual Bitty Baby morning music and there were garlands everywhere- even the restroom sign!
